“Are you all right?” asked the girl running over to Skylar who was now sitting on the ground. As the girl reached him, he held both darts in his hand.
“I am fine,” replied Skylar, holding up the darts. “They pact more of a punch then I thought, glad the guy didn’t get me more then two or I might actually be out.”
        “What guy?”
“The guy who fired that silver dart that I stopped in front of your chest. Help me up and I’ll show you.”
The girl was not sure, but after all that just happened she decided he was trustworthy, he did warn her, even though she didn’t believe him at first. She extended her hand, Skylar grasped it and she pull him to his feet. Once on his feet Skylar took a step and stumbled backwards a little.
“You sure you are all right?”
“I am sure, the drug in these darts are strong. I am just need to take it easy and let the drug pass through my system. I am Skylar by the way.”
        “Jenna.”
“Nice to met you Jenna, sorry it had to be under these circumstances.”
        “Tell me about it.”
        “Follow me.”
Skylar, turned head back into the woods. Jenna looked back towards the school, before following after him. The two did not walk far, they reach where the struggle took place, when Skylar took off running and stopped several feet away. The sniper was gone along with his rifle, Jenna joined him but Skylar paid no attention to her, he was to busy examining the ground.
        “What’s wrong?” asked Jenna confused.
“The sniper he’s gone,” said Skylar not looking at her. “I need to find him.”
        “Why?”
“Because he is either going to do one of two things. Find a new spot to shot from, or he is going to fall back and call in what happened. If he does that you will not be safe here, because more soldiers will come, and they will not something I need right now.”
“Why is that? What is going on? Why does these soldiers want with me?”
        “Got him.”
        “What?”
“Go back to the school, you’re ride should be here soon. Wait five minutes after your ride comes, if I am not back leave. I’ll give you a call and I will let you know what is going on then.”
        “Can’t I go with you?”
        “No, go.”
Jenna did not move, she was not sure what to believe. Everything was happening so fast, now the guy who saved her wants her to leave. Thoughts that he was just trying to avoid answering questions he doesn’t have an answers to. On the other hand he did intervene and warn her when he didn’t have to.
“How do I know you will come back?”
“I have no time, I have to catch up to that soldier before he call in what happened. I promise I will be back and I will answer your questions.”
Skylar did not wait to see what Jenna decide, he took off. Jenna stood their for a moment surprised he just left her. After a few moments, she decided to do what he told her, he obviously knew more of what was going on then she. Jenna turned and head back to the school, as she came out of the woods she saw a red pickup truck park in front of the school. Jenna knew it was her dad, she ran across the field through the parking lot, as she saw her dad walk out of the school.
“Jenna,” said her dad, running down the steps and over to her giving her a hug. “I thought something happened to you, your bag was just on the steps.”
“I am sorry,” said Jenna as she hugged her dad back. “I thought I saw something in the woods, and thought you might be a while so I thought I would go see.”
“It is okay, lets go home,” said her dad releasing the his grasp.
“We can’t,” said Jenna, not sure how she was going to get her dad to wait.
        “Why?”
“Umm… I have a friend who is coming here to let me borrow a book. He should be here in a few minutes.”
“Can’t you get it from him tomorrow?”
“He is already on his way, and doesn’t have a cell phone.”
Jenna’s dad looked at his watch then back at her. “Five minutes.”
        “That fine.”
Jenna walked over and sat down on the steps, while her dad walk over to his truck and turned it off. He then walked over to Jenna and sat down next to her, once seated she laid her head on his shoulder. The two sat there, several minutes passed, when Jenna pulled her phone out to see eight minutes had gone by. She turned to look at her dad, who began to stand up, she knew he had given her a few extra minutes, but. Jenna decided not to stall, she grabbed her bag and stood up as she tossed her bag over her shoulder with one arm through one of the two straps. They walked down the remaining steps, and her dad opened the door, she went to get in when she saw him bend over.
“What’s this?” he asked, as he picked up the silver dart off the pavement. “How did this get here.”
Jenna wanted to tell him what happened, but knew without Skylar it would be just a story. After a moment, she decided to tell him.
        “Dad, you need to know…”
Her dad went to touch the tip of the dart, when a voice spoke up.
“I wouldn’t do that if you want stay awake,” came a voice from behind the truck.
Jenna and her father turned to see Skylar, standing a few feet on the other side.
        “Who are you?”
“Dad, this is Skylar. He is the guy we were waiting for.”
“Oh. We really need to go so if you could give Jenna the book you wanted to let her borrow, we can go.”
“Dad, that is not why we were waiting,” said Jenna, walking out from behind the door.
“What? Okay what is going on here?”
“It is not easy to say this…”
“You’re daughter isn’t safe here,” said Skylar, with a stern face.
        “WHAT?”
        “You heard me.”
        “Jenna get in the truck.”
“Dad, you have to listen to him. There was a man in the woods who fired that dart at him. If it wasn’t for Skylar, I wouldn’t be here right now. That soldier would have taken me away.”
Jenna’s dad was silent, he didn’t not speak, he just looked at Jenna back to Skylar. A few moments went by before he responded. “How did he help you?”
“He called me to warn me, at first I didn’t believe him then as I was about to leave, that dart stopped right in front of my chest. When I looked up I saw him standing on the edge of the tree line, and went over to him. Skylar took me into show me the sniper, but he got away, he went after him.”
“So you found him did you?” asked Jenna’s dad, turing to face him.
        “No.”
        “That’s what I thought, let’s go.”
“He got away, which is why she is not safe here. However, I never said I didn’t have proof.”
        “Let’s see it then.”
“Come around the truck to see for yourself.”
Jenna and her dad looked at each other, then walked around the front of the truck, until they could see all of Skylar’s body. To the right of his left foot was a man in full cameo, tied up with red rope, but l out cold. Jenna couldn’t believe what she was seeing, Skylar was telling the truth. Jenna turned to look at her dad, he just stared at the man.
“While I didn’t catch the man who actually fired the dart, I did bring one of the four men were in the woods, who were going to take Jenna once she was down from the dart.”
“Where are the other men?” asked Jenna looking at Skylar.
“I left them in the woods, you could say a nice little present for the men who come next. Now if you want your daughter to be safe, you need to get her out of this town as fast as you can.”
Jenna’s dad didn’t say anything or move. He was just stood there, Jenna looked at him, she knew he was thinking, trying to make some kind of sense of what was going on. While she knew he was going to try to find some reason not to believe it, she knew there was too much evidence for him not to believe it. Finally he spoke.
“How does a dart just stop in mid air? asked Jenna’s dad, with a smile. Jenna knew he believe he found his way not to believe everything that was going on. She though had the same thought Skylar said he stopped it, but he never said how, now she wanted to know. She turned to see Skylar was not phase by her dad’s question.
“Like this,” said Skylar, reaching into his jacket pulling something. In quick motion he threw the two silver darts he had taken out of his body right at Jenna’s dad. The flew right at his head fast, had no time dodge the sharp tips of the dart, when suddenly they just stopped centimeters away from his face. Jenna turned back to Skylar who was stand holding both of his hand up in front of his face with his two pointer fingers and thumbs close to together as if he was holding something, but not.
“Any more questions?” asked Skylar dropping his hands, as the two darts dropped and clanged as they hit the blacktop of the road.
        “Get in,” said Jenna’s Dad.

(Three Days Later)

“Sir I got a visual of the target,” said a man with camouflage face paint, and dark green top and pants, with a black vest holding more ammo. “Do you want me to take my shot.”
“No,” came a voice over the radio. “What is your location?”
“I am a few feet from the edge of the woods, twenty-six degrees to her left. The target is sitting on the steps of the school. The last person seen was an adult female who came out with them.”
“Understand, wait for the rest of us to get into position, I will radio you back when we are in position for you to take your shot. Do not move from where you are, he might pick up on it.”
“Understand.”

The soldier brought his weapon up ready to take the shot the moment he got the order, he looked through his scope fixing his cross-hairs on the base of young girls left shoulder. The young girl, stood with jet black hair that came down past her shoulder, a strain draped over her right shoulder, that came down past the middle of her chest, covering the first letter of the schools name on her red and black cheerleader outfit. White cords came down from under her hair down around her wait into her hand where she held her lime green iPod. This teen girl between looked to be between 14-16 of age, cute. After a few moments of watching, the soldier noticed her reach over to her bag, and pulled out her cell phone. She reached up and pulled out her left ear bud, held the phone to her ear.

The soldier did not react, thinking it was probably parents or her ride calling to tell her they were running late. After a few moments the girl picked her head up and began, to look back and forth looking for something. This did not go over well with the solider.

“Sir,” said the Solider touching his ear piece. “The target has received a phone call, and began looking around as trying to find something. I believe someone knows we are here.”

*****

“Hello,” said a young teenage girl with jet black hair. “Who is this?”
“Don’t you know not to answer calls from numbers you don’t recognize,” said a guy voice.
“Really funny, trying to do the whole Scream prank phone call on me. Well it won’t work. Bye.”
“Don’t hang up if you want to live.”
“WHAT?”
“You heard me.”
“My father is a cop, and I will have him trace this call, he will find you and arrest you for that threat.”
“I am not threatening you, I am calling to warn you.”
“Warn me of what that someone else is watching me?”
“Yes.”
“Sure prove it.”
“Well in a few moments, there will be several people watching you, but right now only one has you in his sights. The man is in the woods directly in front of you off to your left.

The girl, picked up her head and turned to her left, began moving her head back and forth slowly trying to see if she could see anything.

“I don’t see anyone.”
“That is the point, if the soldier wanted to be seen, he would be wearing bright orange and yellow colors.”
“I don’t believe you, you are going to have to prove it.”

At that moment, the phone when dead, only a dial tone rung in her ear. The girl not sure what to make of it, she pulled the phone from her ear looked at her screen to see the number the called came from. What she saw freaked her out, her heart started to beat a little faster. On the screen was her cell phone number, she looked up again, glancing around. Not feeling safe, she grabbed her bag, stood up quickly put her arms through the straps took a step down the remaining steps, when out of thin air a large dart stopped inches from her chest. The dart just floated there, she focused on it and not sure what just happened. Her phone rang. The girl whipped off her backpack, pulled out her phone, pushed the green phone put it up to her ear.

“Hello?”

*****

(Six minutes Earlier)

Sir I got a visual of the target,” a mans voice came over the radio. “Do you want me to take my shot.”

A tall tan skin man, in full camouflage, with a Bundeswehr Battle Rifle: G36. He stopped held up his fist calling a halt to the three men who were following close behind him. The man reached up to his ear touching his earpiece. “No. “What is your location?”
“I am a few feet from the edge of the woods, twenty-six degrees to targets left. The target is sitting on the steps of the school. The last person seen was an adult female who came out with them.”
“Understand, wait for the rest of us to get into position, I will radio you back when we are in position for you to take your shot.”
“Understand.”

The man picked up his hand over his head and made a circular motion. The three troops came running over to him, and gathered around.

“#8 has the girl in his sights,” said the man. “He is waiting on the order to take her down with the tranquilizer. The coast seems to be clear, we need to get as close as we can to the school. We need to get her once she is down back into the woods without anyone seeing us.”
“What if we run into anyone?” asked one of the men.
“Tranquilize them, the darts have a new drug that will make them forget what happened. There is enough in for them to forget the last few minutes. Only use one dart though even if they don’t go down right away. Too much of the drug can do major damage.”
“Understand, said the men.”
“Good follow me.”
“I am not sure I fully understand,” said a voice outside the huddle.

The men turned to see who had spoke, they didn’t see anyone. They looked all around no one was there. The leader shook it off, motioned to his men, when it came again.

“No serious I came in late, what are you doing?” asked the voice.
“Whose their? asked the leader.

That moment, a thud was heard behind with snapping of several twigs and leaves rustling. The men turned to see what just fell. Several feet from them stood Skylar, wearing a black trench coat open with black cargo pants and a black t-shirt under the coat.

(2 Minutes Later)

“What should I do, if this girl gets spooked is it going to be hard to take the shot without drawing attention to myself.”

The solider waited from he commanders reply, but nothing came. This worried the him, after a few moments he touched his ear piece again. “Sir you there? Should I take the shot?” No one responded, the solider waited again, the whole time he kept the girl in his sights, the girl was now looking at her phone, when he saw her head shoot up looking around franticly.

“Sir I am going to take the shot unless you tell me not to. I will wait five seconds.”

Five second passed, and the solider raised his weapon, putting the crosshairs on the right shoulder of the girl as she was putting her phone back into the bag, when something dark stepped in front of him blocking everything. The soldier looked up to see Skylar standing directly in front of him.

“I think your commander has changed his mind about taking this girl,” said Skylar.

The Solider quickly raised his weapon, fired the dart that flew stuck right into the right thigh of Skylar. He glanced down, back at the solider who still had his weapon fixed on him.

“That stuff doesn’t affect me,” said Skylar.

The Solider, stood up weapon fixed on Skylar’s chest shot again, planting another dart only a few centimeter above his heart. Skylar didn’t move, not wanting to waste another dart, the solider stepped in slammed the butt of his weapon into Skylar’s gut, spun around him before slamming it again in his back, before raising back to his shoulder, got the girl in his sights and pulled the trigger.

*****

Skylar, did not like getting hit, with little affect, he turned using his hand as if he was grabbing something, launched his arm behind him. Just as the solider pulled the trigger, he flew back slamming into a tree dropping to the ground. Skylar did not even check to see if the solider was out, he reached his other hand, squinting his eyes, and closed his fingers as he was catching something small. He felt a slight tug in his hand, before he could feel he had it. Skylar stood up, turned and walked towards the tree line, as he slipped his hand into his pocket and pulled out phone pressed send, and held it up to his ear.

*****

“You wanted proof,” said a Skylar.
“Yes,” said the girl.
“Then look up to your left.”

The cheerleader took her eyes off the floating dart, enough and turned head to the left to see a tall figure standing at the tree line with one hand of his ear and his other in front of him as if he was holding something. A moment after spotting him, Skylar dropped his hand in front him, and she heard a cling of metal on the step in front of her. She turned and looked down to see the dart now resting on the step two below her.

“If you need more proof come over here and I will show you the man who just fired that dart.”

The girl turned to look at Skylar, she was not sure if she trusted him, when she saw him fall to one knee.

“Hold on I am coming.”

“Daniel’s,” said a large dark skin man, with thick black beard, stepping into the hospital room. The man wore a dark blue police uniform, with four stars on his collar.
“Police Chief Williams,” said Daniels, standing up off the bed, dropping the ice pack on the bed. Stepping forward extending his arm, the chief grasped it and shook before breaking the grasp. “What are you doing here?”
“It’s not every day you have one of your best detectives thrown through a mirror and have a prisoner escape through a whole in a interrogation room that did not exist until moments before it was made. I want to know how this fourteen year old got away.”
“I am not sure, everything is a blur. The last thing I remember was asking him why he insisted that I be the one to question him; the next thing I remember is waking up on a stretcher, being loaded into the ambulance. I am surprise they are clearing me to leave.”
“I see,” said Chief Williams, scratching his beard.
“Something seems to be bothering you, sir.”
“Before coming over, I read a report from another officer who came in just after you came through the mirror. He said he saw Skylar form, I guess the only way to describe it is an energy ball that he fired at the wall that caused the hole he escaped from.”
“That’s ridiculous, that is impossible.”
“I thought the same way, but on the way over I received a call from forensics, that support this officers claim. They say that only thing that could have done that was a high power energy beam.”

Daniels couldn’t believe what he was hearing, he had been knocked out when he crashed through the two-way mirror and hit the officers on the other side. He had no recognition of any of this, it all seemed impossible, and that someone with the potential to use these abilities had actually was over looked. He had no clue how this could be, but he knew that if his partners were going to have any chance of capturing Skylar he needed to cover up this up before anyone else found out.

“What’s next?”
“For you? To recover from this, I want you to take the next few days off, to recover. Once you’re better, we can integrate you in.”
“No offense sir, but I am the one who has been working Grant’s case for the past six months. I am the one who knows him best and know his next move might be.”
“If that is so, how come it took six months to apprehend him?”
“That was the one mistake that was made, to over look that he would run. If we had any idea he would, I would have learned those trails so he couldn’t get away. While you might want to use this to take me off, but I have the best chance of finding him.”
The chief did not respond right way, he just stood staring into Daniel’s eyes; Daniels stared back, as he was not going back down.
“What if this officer is correct and this kid can somehow focus energy into power balls? How are you going to catch him when one of those attacks could kill you if it touched you.”
“Until I see it with my own eyes, I won’t believe it. If he can, I am sure he can’t do that often, or he would have used it when we caught him. Sir, let me purse him.”
“Fine, but I am going to give you short leash, you have three days to catch him before I call in the National Guard.”
“Thank you.”

Chief Williams shook his head, before turning and leaving the room. A few minutes later, the nurse returned handed him his paperwork. Once he had his paperwork, he walked out of the room down to the main counter, signed out before head for the main entrance, once outside he reached into his pocket pulled out his cell phone. Pushed a button to speed dial. He lifted the phone to his ear. “Work” he thought hoping it was not damaged when he was tossed through the mirror. The line started to ring, a feeling of relieve came over him. The phone rang a few times, before someone picked up.

“Green,” said a deep voice on the other end.
“Sir,” said Daniels.
“Yes.”
“We have a problem.”
“What kind of problem?”
“One of them.”
“What about them, having a hard time bring in one?”
“You could say that.”
“Why’s that?”
“Because he has full access to his power.”
“What?”

(One week ago)

“You’re not focusing,” said olive skin man, walking around Skylar who sat on a hard wood floors, cross legged with his hand placed on his knees, his back straight his shoulders back, and his eyes closed. “I am not sure how you think you’re going to unlock your abilities if you don’t focus.”
“If you would stop moving and distracting me, then maybe I will be able to focus,” said Skylar opening his eyes, as he turned to face the olive skin man.

The moment Skylar turned he saw it coming, Skylar reacted, he dropped his head, as the olive skin man foot soared over his head. He felt the breeze move through his hair, he had just moved his head in time or he would have probably would have woken up with a bad headache, his mentor was not holding back. The moment the kick was past his head, Skylar planted his right hand against the hardwood floor, locking his arm, cart wheeled up to his feet, using his legs to force the olive skin man back. Skylar’s feet touched and came the next attack, a punch, Skylar turned his body to the left popping his left hand across his body knocking the arm of his mentor’s arm further away.

Skylar followed up turning his body came around with a spinning back fist to the back of the Olive skins head, but he ducked the fast moving fist, stepping and kicking out Skylar’s left leg out from under him. Skylar fell back, but quickly arched his back, planting his right hand catching himself, using the momentum; he followed through landing on his feet. With his feet hitting the floor, he continued with the force, he had going and through his right knee up, as olive skin man came in for another attack. In mid attack, he turned his incoming kick into a sidewards knee of his own. The to collided, nailing Skylar in the shin.

“Oiu,” shouted Skylar dropping his leg down, only for his mentor to bring the blade of his foot down racking it down the face of the bone. Pain soared through body, causing him to flinch. Skylar jumped bring around his left leg around for a kick to the head of the olive skin man, with lightning fast reflexives, slammed his right forearm up blocking the kick. Skylar brought his leg back, quickly changing fighting position, to protect his hurt right leg.

Skylar only just switched position as his master was on him, he brought in another punch, to his chest, he slammed his left palm into his forearm, knocking away from his chest, and grabbed it with his left hand and pulled him in, but as Skylar’s mentor came in he kicked out his left leg, spinning him as he lost his balance. The force of the moments left Skylar completely off the ground, he brought his right leg back around slamming it into between the shoulder blades of the olive skin man, sending him crashing into the wooden floor. Skylar landed on his right leg, but his speed was to great and kept going towards the floor.

Skylar hit the floor, slamming the ground with his palm on his side; he brought his down, rolled back on his back. The moment his other shoulder blade touched the floor he brought his knees to his chest, throw them out kicked to his feet, landing going instantly into fighting stance, his mentor had gotten back to his feet. The two stood staring into each others eyes, when a slight ring came from the far end of the dojo. Skylar turned, surprised by the ring he was hearing, he didn’t even see the attack, as he turned only to fly to the floor slamming his back into the wooden floor with a loud bang. The olive skin man had once again taken out his legs with a sweep, Skylar slapping the ground to absorb the force through out his body instead of his back. Before he could move, his master stepped putting his foot to his throat.

“I yield,” said Skylar, looking up mentor. “You got me Jing.”
“You could have won this spar,” said Jing, pulling Skylar to his feet. “If you hadn’t lost focus when you heard… hey are you even listing to me?”

Skylar once on his feet turned jetted across the dojo over to a black school backpack, where the ring was still coming. He grabbed pulled out a dark blue cell phone, on the screen the name Isis Allan, on it. Skylar quickly flip the phone opened and placed up to his ear.

“Isis?” asked Skylar, with a concern look on his face.
“SKYLAR,” said a girls voice on the other end. “I can’t believe you picked up.”
“Isis, oh my god,” said Skylar with tears forming in his eyes, one even rolled down his cheek. “How is this? I thought you were dead. I can’t tell you how much I have missed you.”
“Skylar I’ve missed you so much. Can’t do this, they have me, they kidnapped me.”
“What? Who? Who kidnapped? Why did they kidnap you?”
“I am not sure who they are, but they are doing all kinds of experiments on me and a bunch of other kids. I managed to skip, and you were the only one number I could think of. You need to help us?”
“Okay, just tell me where you are? I am somewhere in North Carolina, I am not sure. Skylar, Detective Daniel’s he’s works for them, he is the one who kidnapped me.”
“What.”
“There she is,” a faint voice in the back.
“Skylar they found me.”
“Run.”
“Let go of me,” screamed Isis.
“ISIS.”
“Skylar help me.”
“Click”
“ISIS”

A loud tone of a dead line rung through the phone, Skylar held tight to his cell, not believing this just happened. Tears streamed down his cheeks,

“ISIS!” shouted Skylar.

Skylar shut his eyes, as he began to weep, water poured down his face, still holding his phone, hoping maybe Isis got away, but knowing more then likely whoever had her whoever was doing these experiments had once again caught their experiment. Skylar felt a light touch on his back; Jing had joined him and placed his arm around him. He felt him take his phone and pulled it from his hand. Several minutes went by, Skylar had begun to stop crying, he stood with his head to his chest.

“It’s alright.”
“No it’s not.”

Skylar shot his head up flung open his eyes, there was different, his brown eyes transformed to bright all white with a faint glow coming from them. The dojo, began to shake, loud thuds and bangs could be heard, in the back as different items fell from the shaking building. A loud crash bellowed through the open dojo as the front window shattered. Sparks shot from the lights above as they began to fall, snapping the electrical cords.

“SKYLAR,” shouted Jing, getting to his feet, after falling once the building had begun to move. “You need to stop, come back.”

The building continued to shake, but it was not just the building, out side the telephone lines, and lights fell snapping power lines, landing and smashing cars below them. Several car alarms could be heard barely above the roar of the shaking ground. This continued for a few minutes, when it came to a sudden stop. Skylar snapped back to reality. His eyes returned to normal, the moment they were back to normal the earthquake stopped. A moment passed before Skylar fully returned to he normal, he snapped back surprised what was around him.

Fallen lights and glass littered the dojo floor, spars rained down from the lights that fell. Skylar couldn’t believe what happen, he stared out the broken front window to see the street lined with down lights and telephones poles and lines. The last few minutes were a blank, nothing that happened he remembered.

“What happened?” asked Skylar, as he turned to face Jing.
“You,” Jing responded.
“What?”
“You did it.”
“Did what?”
“You unlocked your abilities.”
“WHAT!”
“This is what I have been telling you, these abilities are no joke. It is why the people behind your girlfriend’s disappearance are gathering them. They want these abilities under their control.”
“I see.”

Skylar turned bent down grabbed his bag zipped it up stood up threw it over his shoulder walked over took his phone from Jing, slipped it into his pocket, turned headed for the entrance.

“Where do you think you’re going? Just because you unlocked these abilities you can use them whenever, you are wrong. You need to learn how use them.”
Skylar stopped he paused for a few moments, then turned to face Jing. “Show me, but has to be something I can do wherever.”
“There I so much, it takes a long time to learn how to master these abilities.”
“You have a week to teach me the basics, and show me anything else I can do once I leave.”
“If that is along as I can keep you, then I will do my best. Just one question, what are you going to do once you leave.”
“Home,” said Skylar, dropping his bag. “You have one week, lets not waist any of it.”

Chronicles of Skylar Grant: Ch 2

Written By Tim Greene

Skylar looked up as he heard the door open to the interrogation room, to see who was coming in. He wanted to see if they finally decided to listen to him, and bring in the one person he told them he would talk to. It had been three hours, since he had been arrested, and sat at the table and just stared at it not answering any questions other then to request Detective Daniels. Skylar smiled as the door opened to see Detective Daniels behind the door, he didn’t say anything. He knew he had gotten to the other detectives, especially when they threatened to hurt him, and he didn’t flinch.

“I was told you requested me,” said Daniels, closing the door behind him. He opened up the folder he had tucked under his right arm. He skimmed it quickly before tossing it down onto the table, a loud flop sound rung through the room. “You choose a hell of a day to get caught, and decided you wanted me. Today was my day off; of course, you would get caught the first day I take off since you went on the run. If I knew that is what would take to bring you back, I would have done it a lot sooner. Now why did you want me, when you could have easily said what you have to say to any other detective here.”
“You assume,” said Skylar sitting up in this chair.
“Assume what?” asked Daniels taking a seat on the opposite side of the table.
“You said I got caught, when everyone in this office knows better then that.”
“Why do you say that?”
“Well after two and a half hours, of not saying anything other then to request you, they bring in Ms. Allan, who asks all the same questions, but with no answers she asks why I gave myself up.”
“Son, the moment you were spotted at the High School, you were destined to end up in that chair handcuffed. You wouldn’t have gotten away, there is no where you could have run that we wouldn’t have found you.”
“I believe you said the same thing when I was first brought in for questioning, before you were going to arrest me. Six months later, before you had any lead on me, only because I wanted you to find me.”
“Skylar, we spent that time learning every way in and out of those trails which allowed you to escape. Now that we have you, there won’t be a minute where you are not handcuffed or behind bars. When we arraign you tomorrow morning bail will be denied.”
“There you go again, assuming,” said Skylar leaning with a huge smile on his face.
Detective Daniels was starting to get mad, his face started turn from a pale white to a scarlet red. His ears were bright maroon, and beads of sweat were starting to form on his forehead. “What I am I assuming this time?”
“You are assuming that I am going to still be here come morning. Hell you are assuming I am still going to be in custody after this conversation.”
“What,” said Daniels, leaning back in his chair with a grin on his face, his face returned to its normal pale white color. “I have heard people talk crazy before, but these were master criminals who had actual chance of doing it. You are a fourteen-year-old boy. Now enough with your silliness, I came in on my day off, not get to what wanted me for.”
Skylar turned and faced the mirror, then turned back and faced Daniels. “Anyone behind that mirror?”
“What?”
“You heard me, anyone behind there?”
“Why does it matter?”
“Trust me, you will. If there is you might want them to leave, because I guarantee you don’t want them hearing what I have to say.”

Daniels just looked at Skylar; his eyes were keen on making sure no one else heard what he said. Daniels stood up walked over to the mirror, he look at it almost through it. After a few moments he turned looked back at Skylar who had followed him, then knocked twice on the mirror quickly. Daniels waited a few seconds then, walked over to the table and sat on the edge.

“Now speak.”
“About time,” said Skylar, leaning back rubbing his right wrist were impression of the cuff was. A similar mark was on his left wrist as well. Daniels couldn’t believe it, only moments ago he had cuffs on, he reacted, he grabbed Skylar, and picked up out of the chair, slammed him on the table.
“Someone get in here,” shouted Daniels.
“You don’t want that,” laughed Skylar.
“JEFFERSON!”
“Do you want him to hear your secret?”
“What?”
Skylar left his shoulders off the table staring right into Daniel’s wide hazel eyes. “I know you are behind Isis disappearance.”

Daniels let go of Skylar and took a step back, Skylar sat up looking to see the frighten look on his face. His eyes darted from him to the door, back to him. A stern look appeared on his face, as in that brief second he looked away he had made a decision. Skylar was not concern by this; he just stared at him, when Daniels moved.
“You won’t be telling anyone that,” said Daniels, as he rushed Skylar grabbing him by his neck with his right hand and pinning his right arm against the table. “You were suppose to take the fall, but now I am going to have to kill you.”

Daniel’s began to squeeze around Skylar’s neck, with both hands. It was impossible to get any air into, when he grabbed a hold of Daniels. Everything changed.

“NO YOU WON’T,” croaked Skylar, as his eyes erupted pure white. Daniels hands instantly unwrapped around his neck, the moment Skylar was free, and Daniels flew up into the air and slammed into the ceiling with loud bang. He dropped to the floor, with just as much force. Skylar got up off the table, rubbing his neck, before facing the down detective. He lifted his hand, at that moment Daniels flew up to his feet, and with quick movement of his hand, as if he was swatting a fly, Daniels flew backwards slamming into a wall with a bang. Skylar turned instantly behind as he heard the door starting to open.

“Sorry, this is a private conversation,” said Skylar, as two more detectives dashed into the room. With a wave of his hand, they flew back through the door, and it shut behind them. Skylar looked to the table, with a nod, the table flew on its left side so the table was standing straight up, before turning to face Skylar and move over crashing into the door blocking anyone from getting in. “There we go, finally the privacy.”
“I don’t know what you think you are doing, but you will never get away,” said Daniels struggling to break free from the invisible force that held him against the wall. If you kill me, they will hunt you and not even hesitate to shoot you on sight.”
“How did you ever make detective with all this assuming you do?” asked Skylar, walking over to Daniel. He stood only a few inches from him. “I am not going to kill you, I am here because I know you are the one covering up Isis kidnapping by making it look like she is dead, and framed me. Just like all the other kids the people you are working for, blame it on the person who they are dating or if they are a loner you make it look like a suicide.”
“I have no clue what you’re talking about.”
“Save it, do you think I would show up here to let you know I was on to you if I wasn’t sure? I came here to let you know that I will find her, and I will expose these people. I am the last person you want to deal with; I am going to give them away out. Have them return Isis by tomorrow at noon, or I will hunt everyone of them down and make them wish they never even thought of what they are doing with these kids.”

Crash!

Skylar turned to see the mirror had a crack running from top to bottom, and then it became even bigger, as he saw it move out. The officers on the other side were trying to get in.

“Your time to escape is running out.”
“My time to escape has yet to run out, you tell your boss my demand and it is in his best interest to follow through.”
“You don’t know who you are messing with, they know how to deal with kids like you. How do you think they captured all those others, they will have you as part of their collection soon.”
“Wrong, they know how to catch kids who powers have yet to show, they have no clue how to deal with someone who not only can use them, but knows fully well how to use them. Remember tomorrow by noon.”

Crash!

A piece of the mirror a few inches long fell to the floor and shattered. Skylar turned to face the mirror. “Oh you want in, here let me help you.”

With a quick movement of his hand Daniel went from the wall flying across the room, he slammed into the mirror and flew through it landed on the two officers on the other side. Skylar looked at the two officers who walked into the room, cracked a smile before turning to the wall Daniels was just against.

“Skylar get your hands up, or we will shoot,” shouted one of the officers.
Skylar moved his hands to his right side, a small light appeared in between his hands, erupted into the size of a small baseball. The room was filled with bright blue light from the energy being concentrated in his hands. Skylar looked back at the officers, they had dropped their weapons with terrified looks on their faces. “That’s right be afraid, be very afraid.” Yes that’s right I just quoted Geena Davis on the fly.”

Skylar turned back towards the wall and forced his hands forward in front of his chest, the energy in his hand shot from his hands and slammed into the wall. The wall disintegrated as the energy touched it, in seconds the walk was gone where the energy now was, when a bright flash filled the whole room, while everyone was blinded by the flash, Skylar jumped through the hole and out of the building.

Chronicles of Skylar Grant: Ch 1

Written By Tim Greene

“Is it true?” asked a talk thin woman with wavy blond hair, as she walked into the police station.
“Yes,” said an officer behind the desk standing, to give the thin woman a hug. “They have him in the back and are questioning him.”
“I want to see him.”
“Hilary,” said the Officer, pulling back from the embrace. “I am not sure that is a good idea. Let the detectives deal with this. They will find where your daughter is.”
“Ted,” said Hilary, taking a seat in a seat. “It has been over six months, you don’t have to act like my daughter is still a live. I have accepted she is dead, now I just want her body so I can give her a proper burial. Let me talk to him.”
“Let’s just see what the detectives find out, he might just tell them, especially how he was caught.”

Hilary leaned back into her chair; she took a deep breath, looked down at the floor. She couldn’t believe what that it was true, how after six months they finally caught her daughter’s killer. Besides where her daughter’s body laid, she wanted to know why, why after being on the run for so long he just gave himself up. After a few moments, she picked her head up looked at Officer Kerry. “So it is true. He just showed back up.”

“Yes.”

(Two Hours Earlier)

Sirens blared in the distance as a young dark blond hair boy walked down the road from the high school. With a black zip up hoodie, left opened on this beautiful spring day. The sun high in the sky, but one glance anyone could tell it was in the early afternoon slightly after one. Under the hoodie, part of a dark blue shirt could be seen with the words “Never Wrong” visible in golden letters. He worked in his dark blue jeans and black Converse All-Star shoes. The sirens slowly grew as they police cars grew closer, but this fourteen year old just kept walking.

Someone had to have seen him while he was up at the high school, he was not there long, only to say hi to his best friend Jared Jones. He left after talking to him briefly, then continued on his way. That was ten minutes ago, and he was half way to town, before the sirens even began to be heard. It had been a long time since the last time Skylar Grant had been home. As he walked along the road towards the small town of Red Creek, New York, he knew the sirens were coming for him, but he continued to walk. If he really wanted he could jump the rail and disappear into the woods in seconds before the police even reached his location.

The police wouldn’t stand a chance of finding him, in there; he grew up playing in those woods, he knew every trail like the back of his hand. He knew that at any moment on any of the trail he knew he could break trail and end up another trail where on that trail. By the time the cops could get dogs up there to sniff him he would be long gone, but Skylar continued to head towards the sirens. Several minutes had past since the sirens begun resounded throughout the valley. Skylar reached a bridge the one-mile marker from town; he knew the police would be there within a minute.

Skylar decided this is where he would greet them, he jumped up onto the rail of the bridge, and he walked across until he reached the middle of the bridge with perfect balance. At the middle, he stopped turned and looked down at the wild river below. The snow that had melted on the mountains was just reaching them. If anyone jumped into the water, they would be whisked away by the current. He just stared at the water, as the siren was practically on him.

Skylar knew any second the police car would come around the bend and see him and come to a stop. He paid no attention anything but the fast moving river, when the police car rounded the bend with in seconds the car came to a screeching stop cutting the road so no one could pass. The officer inside opened his door, pulled his gun, and pointed it at Skylar.

“Skylar Grant,” shouted the officer. “You are under arrest for the murder of Isis Stone.”

Skylar did not move or even look at the officer, he just kept his gaze on the river, he cracked a smile. “Only if you knew what you were getting yourself into.” Skylar said to himself.

“Put your hands over your head and turn to face me.”

Skylar ignored the officer; he was just to focus on the river, as how the wave splashed against the only visible rock. This rock had to be big to stick out of the river and cause the rapids splash against it. It was then Skylar noticed another siren that was every close, he was so focused on the river he did not noticed it. With in a few seconds the second car arrived. It too screeched to a stop and the officer was out of his car with his gun drawn too.

“Son you don’t want to jump, those waters will kill you,” said the second officer. “Just get down off the rail, we don’t want to hurt you.”

Skylar didn’t even acknowledge the second officer, though he did make a move. He raised his head and looked at the small field that was between the woods. A memory of his childhood him, Jared and Isis playing in this very field when they were in fifth grade, playing tag, jumping on the hay barrels.

“Good times, I wonder how we would have lived back then if we knew our fate.”
Skylar turned and faced the two officers still crouched behind their doors with their guns pointing at him. He jumped down from the rail and looked at them. He looked at both officers, and cracked another smile. “Do you really think you need those? I am not armed. Also if I was going to try to get away, I would have disappeared into the woods by now.”
“Put your hands on your head,” shouted the first officer.
“You mean like this?” asked Skylar, mockingly raising his arms and placing his hands on the back of his head. “Is this what you want?”
“Now walk and put your head on the hood of the car,” said the second officer.
“Officer Olsen, is that you? Man you have gotten old.”
“DO IT.”
“Nope you haven’t changed, still strict as can be.”
“Shut up and do as you’re told,” said the first officer.
“You want me to put my head on the hood of the car, right?”
“Yes.”
“Which car?”
“Don’t joke with us?”
“I am not, there are two cars, and they’re fore two hoods. I am the same amount of space between both of them. I just don’t want to make a wrong move or you might shoot me.”
“My car,” shouted Officer Olsen.
Skylar turned to face the second car, walked until he couldn’t walk any further. Skylar went to put his head on the hood, but half way down, he stop and raised until he was straight again. “But I just met this hood, I am not sure making out with it is such a good idea.”
“Laugh it up, you’re going away for murder. We will make sure to use this all at your trial. Resisting arrest.”
“Tell me how I am resisting, because I am sure I am just being a smart mouth.”
“Shut it, and put your head on the hood now.”

Skylar shook his head put his head on the hood. The first officer moved from his door around the front of his car, and over behind Skylar. Once he reached him, he holstered his weapon and grabbed his handcuffs. He grabbed Skylar’s left hand, bent it down behind his back, and cuffed him.

“No so tight, I cheap easily.”
“Shut it, Hilary Stone is a good friend of mine and I have seen the pain she has gone through due to the death of her daughter. I am going to personally see to it that you go away for a long time.”
The officer grabbed Skylar’s right hand, bent back like the left, and cuffed him, this time a little tighter.

“Oiu, said Skylar flinching from the pinch. “I’ll remember that.”
“Good, put him in the car, I am going up to the high school I’ll met you back at the station.”
“On it”
